The final knockout tournament of this season’s Overwatch League is upon us and with it the last chance for some teams to reap some glory before the playoffs begin. Will the same few teams that have dominated these competitions continue doing so, or will we see another unexpected bracket run like how the Toronto Defiant did last time around? Let’s see what the Countdown Cup will bring us.
Knockout Round Matches North America First Round
- Atlanta Reign vs. Vancouver Titans
- Los Angeles Valiant vs. Houston Outlaws
- Dallas Fuel vs. Washington Justice
- Toronto Defiant vs. Los Angeles Gladiators
While I do not doubt that San Francisco or Paris have the depth and meta experience to win, as they have with the last two cup competitions, this time I believe Philadelphia can win the whole thing. Given how close the Fusion came to winning the Summer Showdown and their proven roster depth, they should have the drive and determination to win everything. The only things standing in their way is if Sp9rkle or Rascal manage to pull off another god-tier Genji performance. Among the teams having to go through the first knockout round, the team most prepped for success is the Los Angeles Valiant, with the likes of KSF, KSP, and Lastro leading the way and capable of pulling off an upset.
Countdown Cup Asia Quarterfinals Bracket
- Shanghai Dragons gets first-round bye
- Guangzhou Charge vs. New York Excelsior
- Hangzhou Spark vs. Seoul Dynasty
- Chengdu Hunters vs. London Spitfire
The Shanghai Dragons have another first-round bye in this bracket, which did give them an inside track to the final. That track will not be as easy this time around, having to play either Guangzhou or New York in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the Chengdu Hunters have suddenly found themselves as the 2 seed, having a favorable bracket run against teams that could have trouble running against the Chengdu Wrecking Ball compositions. I do not think Chengdu will win in the finals, but it will be fun to watch.
